Bernard Kyei Baffour, professionally known as Ben Kay, is a UK-based Ghanaian interdisciplinary artist working across artistic photography, moving image, and conceptual filmmaking. Rooted in Afrocentric visual storytelling, his work explores themes of identity, resilience, memory, and Africa’s evolving relationship with history and the wider world. Artistic photography is his focal medium, while moving image and film serve as narrative tools that support and expand his visual language.
Born in Accra and creatively nurtured in Kumasi, Ben’s passion for multimedia began in 2011 during his time at Kumasi Academy Senior High School. He later earned a Higher National Diploma (HND) and Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Graphics (Multimedia) from Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in Ghana. At TTU, he served as Media Chair for the Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology (2018–2020) and SRC Women’s Commission Media Lead (2020–2021). In 2022, Ben was awarded an International Talent Scholarship to pursue a Master of Arts in Film and Television at Falmouth University in the United Kingdom, completing the program in 2023. This period marked a transformative evolution in his artistic voice, affirming artistic photography as his core practice while integrating moving image to reflect Afrocentric narratives with symbolic precision.
Ben is the founder of BENKAY VISUALS LTD, a UK-registered creative company focused on producing photography, film, and visual content that centers African perspectives, cultural identity, and diasporic themes. He also founded Ghab Photographic Equip Hub in Ghana, an initiative supporting local creatives with access to professional photographic tools and gear.
He has worked with respected media firms such as Capture and Modern Media Concept, and holds professional certifications in Avid Media Composer, DaVinci Resolve, and Adobe Premiere Pro, enabling him to bring technical finesse to his post-production and narrative work.
