Exhibition Theme: Coast
Organizers: The Photocopy Club
Concept:
The Photocopy Club’s Open Call and Collective Study Project, titled “COAST: Exploring the Edge of the Land,” invites submissions of conceptual photography that examine the dynamic relationship between land and sea, exploring coastal environments through diverse perspectives. The exhibition, held at Grays Wharf in Penryn, England, encourages artists to consider not only the physical boundaries between land and sea but also the metaphorical significance of these edges, addressing themes such as environmental and socio-political issues, transition, and transformation.
For this call, I submitted my work, “Equilibrium”, a conceptual piece that explores Africa’s vulnerability during global health crises. The photograph reflects the continent’s struggles through an Afrocentric lens, resonating with the exhibition’s theme by symbolizing the divide between the global North and Africa. Through symbolic imagery, “Equilibrium” questions the imbalance of resources and power, using the metaphor of borders and edges to highlight Africa’s exploitation, especially in times of crisis.
