Exhibition Theme: FUTURE STARS Digital – 6th Edition

Organizers: The Holy Art Gallery

Concept:

The “FUTURE STARS Digital – 6th Edition” exhibition, hosted by The Holy Art Gallery from December 20th to 30th, 2024, in London and Athens, was all about giving artists a chance to shine on a global stage. It didn’t matter if they were just starting out or already established, the focus was on creativity and connection. Using digital displays, the exhibition brought together a mix of art forms, from photography and painting to sculpture, video art, mixed media, poetry, and illustration. The idea was to break down barriers, letting artists share their stories and work with people from all over the world, celebrating new ideas and fresh perspectives along the way.

I am truly honored to have my work, “Equilibrium,” selected for The Holy Art’s FUTURE STARS Digital – 6th Edition exhibition in London and Athens. Equilibrium is presented in two compositions, a mid-shot and a wide shot. Given the nature of the exhibition, I decided to showcase the wide shot to fully bring out the depth and atmosphere of the piece.

This work tells a deeply personal and collective story, exploring Africa’s vulnerability during global health crises through an Afrocentric lens. The photograph features a male model standing in the sea, wearing a nebulizer mask connected to a globe tucked under his arm. His unbuttoned shirt represents both raw exposure and the need for protection. The visible African map on the globe is a reminder of the continent’s significant contributions to the world, yet the restless waters around him reflect the struggles Africa endures, especially when global crises hit.

Equilibrium questions the imbalance of power and resources in the world. It highlights how Africa, despite its rich resources and resilience, often finds itself left exposed, like during the vaccine hoarding in global health emergencies. Through carefully layered symbolism, this image serves as a metaphor for Africa’s fight for justice, equity, and recognition.

With this work, I seek to spark conversations and challenge perspectives. I want to tell stories that resonate not just with Africa, but with anyone who understands what it means to navigate inequality while holding onto hope. This piece is part of my ongoing journey to shed light on Africa’s struggles, strength, and undeniable presence in today’s world.
