A visual meditation on Afrocentric identity, “The Wall Within” explores the interplay between protection and freedom. At its heart stands a figure enclosed within the Eban symbol, an Adinkra motif of security, wrapped in Fawohodie cloth, which speaks to independence and inherited strength. The mask conceals and reveals, echoing ancestral wisdom and the spirit of Sankofa: reclaiming the past to move forward. From above, the symbol becomes a force field, structured yet fluid, reflecting the tension between history and evolution. This piece questions what it means to be free, protected, and whole, offering a bold assertion that identity is shaped by history, but not confined by it.
